Abstract: | Objective The aim of this study was to evaluate the concordance between body weight and height measured and estimated by predictive equations in adults with T21. Methods An analytic observational cross-sectional study was carried out with 15 adults of both genders, enrolled in an organization for people with T21. Weight was measured on an Omron® digital scale, and height was measured using an inelastic measuring tape attached to a wall without a baseboard. Predictive equations were used to estimate weight and height. The standardized distribution of data was performed using the Shapiro-Wilk test. The correlation between measured and estimated measurements was performed by Spearman's or Pearson's correlation. The Bland & Altman chart was used to analyze the concordance between the measured and estimated measurements. For all analyses, a 5% significance level was considered. Results The weight estimate by the chumlea’s equation et al. (1994) showed the closest value to the measured one, with the lowest overestimate (0.650kg) and almost perfect concordance. The most different formula was that of Rabito (2006), with an overestimate of 5.27kg. As for height, the equation of Silveira (1994) showed moderate concordance and less overestimation (1cm), the others showed higher than 2cm difference, and the one by Hernandez (2005) was the most discordant with 10cm more than the measured value. Conclusion A good concordance was observed between the measures obtained and those estimated by some of the equations tested, such as that of Chumlea et al. (1994) for weight and that of Silveira (1994) for height, which reinforces the importance of this validation for the T21 population and the need for further studies with larger samples. |
