Construção do estado, conflitos armados e violência política: um estudo comparado entre o Kosovo e o Sudão do Sul no pós-independência

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the relationship between the state-building process and the dynamics of armed conflicts and violence in the post-independence period. To this end, the cases of Kosovo and South Sudan are investigated. Both countries have recently gained independence, so their governments have taken the responsibility of doing the tasks of the state-building process. The relevance and the hypothesis of this paper are based on the fact that the effective, or not effective, realization of the state-building can influence a country positively or negatively, because the assumption is that the initial phases of the state building process is responsible for conflict and violence. This paper is of a qualitative type carried out through a comparative study, theoretical study and statistical datas. The main conclusion that is reached is that in the South Sudan’scenario it was possible to prove the relationship between the conflict and the initial stage of the state-building process, while in Kosovo it was not possible to reach this conclusion due to foreign intervention.
