Abstract

Biblical tradition, from the Old to the New Testament, has read the flood narrative sometimes distinct from others similar. The account of the flood becomes a foundation for apocalyptic images, a theme for conversion and as a typology of Baptism. The aim of this course completion work is to investigate how the interpretation of the flood account was carried out within the biblical books. In addition to the bibliographical review on the narrative of the deluge, the reinterpretation methods of the hagiographers and the historical-critical are used to find the reinterpretations and a locus for the writing of the report. The state of the art of research on the narrative of Gen 6-9 is presented to understand the historical context in which the narrative is written and what are the main comments on the account. Afterwards, it seeks to address the reinterpretations of the narrative of the flood within the Old Testament books, which cover three nuances, namely, the state of chaos, the sovereignty of Yahweh and the eschatological. The last part addresses the reinterpretation of the account in the New Testament writings which seek to teach Christians about the divine nature of Jesus from his power over the created nature; about vigilance and constant prayer until Jesus returns; and as a type for Baptism, a bath that washes away all kinds of filth, leading the Christian to acquire an attitude of faith and evangelizing. In summary, Yahweh is able to destroy and rebuild/save his people, until the evening of the final day, since he mercifully intervened in the time of Noah, He interposes during slavery and exile and will always interfere in the history of his people.
