INTRODUCTION: women were still considered a weaker sex, had no social, economic and political rights, and were distanced from access to health services. Therefore, the National Policy for Comprehensive Women's Health Care (PNAISM) was created to include women in self-care, mainly to reduce diseases such as breast cancer in elderly women, and for this it requires Health Literacy (HL) to ensure an expansion in the prevention of breast cancer for this group. OBJECTIVE: To identify the scientific evidence regarding health literacy for the prevention of breast cancer in elderly women. METHODOLOGY: This is an integrative review study carried out in the SCIELO, LILACS, MEDLINE databases via BVS, carried out between February/2023 and December/2024, with the inclusion criteria being articles in Portuguese, English and Spanish and exclusion criteria being gray literature, dissertations, event annals, with the study being descriptive analysis. RESULT AND DISCUSSION: The selected articles were 25 articles for analysis of the study, all articles found were in English, in which the publication period was between the years 2014-2024, being categorized into two categories, namely, “Impact of LS on health conditions” and “LS and preventive measures for breast cancer”, which highlights in the first category the significant association of LS in the adherence of the female group in breast cancer screening and in taking care of their own health, and in the second category highlights the need for greater educational activities to facilitate insertion in the prevention of breast CA, as well as the need for a greater evaluation of the LS of this population. CONCLUSION: Most patients had an inadequate LS, which directly impacted their quality of life, as well as adherence to the prevention and treatment of breast cancer. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS: Understanding LS for the prevention of breast cancer is extremely important to help the female group make decisions about their own health, therefore, there is a need for further studies on LS and breast cancer prevention, mainly, in Portuguese.
