Análise e reflexões sobre o conceito do “Ótimo Climático”: subsídios à elucidação e adequação do termo

Abstract

The work presented here exposes the origin of the Quaternary period, the meaning of the term and its divisions. When dealing with the division found within the Quaternary, we delved into the Holocene period, which is where the time interval called “Optimum Climatic” is found – central point and guide of this research. Also, the reasons for divisions of the Holocene and the criteria established by the International Commission on Stratigraphy were addressed at this point. Finally, a topic entirely dedicated to the “Optimum Climatic”, focuses on solving questions about the meaning, use and time interval in which it appears in the research used in this work. The purpose of the research was to analyze the term “Optimum Climatic” from the point of view of time interval, meaning and use. Thus, carrying out an expository analysis, the work sought to report the sometimes inappropriate use of the term and the consequences for the scientific community, raising questions for reflection. The research was carried out entirely in a bibliographical way, using texts and articles from various journal portals. Also, it was necessary to search online books in the areas related to the research, as well as in text archives from different areas of knowledge. The expected results of this work are: complete analysis of the term “Optimum Climatic”, so that possible inconsistencies in the use of the term in a generic way could be verified in the spatial context and the temporal discrepancies, allowing a reflection on the continuity of the use of the term, also considering the discrepancies in the characterization of the time interval that arise from author to author. All things considered, it is necessary to raise new reflections on the subject and propose (or not) a new term that can fulfill this function with the proper theoretical foundations.
