Da materialidade para a imaterialidade da cultura: as concepções sobre a infância na segunda metade do século XIX, Cemitério São Miguel da Cidade de Goiás

Abstract

The present work is aimed at the study of the material culture present in the tombs of children of the 19th century, which were raised during the research of Scientific Initiation at the São Miguel Cemetery in the City of Goiás, by analyzing the tombstones and inscriptions present in the children's tombs. the terms “innocent” and “angel” were identified, and the following question emerged: “how were children seen socially?” And it was this question that propelled the theme of this research, aiming to identify the ideas or conceptions about childhood in the 19th century to better understand the material culture that is inserted in the São Miguel cemetery in the City of Goiás. The method used to reach the objective of this work was the bibliographical survey on the subject and the survey of data carried out in the field for the analysis of material culture. Through analysis, I understand that, unlike the middle Ages, the feeling about childhood and the child's position within the family was something that emerged in the industrial period. From there, the formal aspects of four children's tombs in the São Miguel Cemetery in the City of Goiás were analyzed, especially the affective and aesthetic values of the time being identified.
