Abstract

The world, since its first societies, goes through several ills and difficulties, where with the emergence of beliefs, the use of myths and rituals, were ways to seek to promote problem solving, perform healing, as a way of reestablishing the cosmos. With the globalization process, human beings start to lose their daily practices of rituals, myths, and imagination, giving way to science as the only central element, leaving many traditions to be erased. The faith and use of medicinal plants become essential to understand the formation of a certain society and are elements that are part of the ritualistic practices of blessings, which according to many scientists, bring beneficial results to reestablish the health and well-being of those most suffer, as presented by Lemos (2020), the use of prayer can treat chronic pain that affects health. In this sense, the question is: who are the healers, what moves them and how do they remain in society, even with the institutionalization of beliefs and bureaucratization of faith? The objective of this monographic work is to present the figure of faith healers, especially those from the State of Goiás, focusing on the women of the Kalunga community, analyzing their customs, resistance, and preservation of memory. The methodology that guides the research is the bibliography, using books such as the writers Otto (2007), Eliade (2001), Lemos (2005), Del Priori (2011), in addition to scientific articles, theses and dictionaries, which could promote hypotheses. possible on the questions, in addition to the deepening of the theme. However, even with analysis and presenting articles referring to the figure of faith healers, they are still poorly studied figures, often creating challenges in the search to understand this popular tradition, in addition to the fact that prayers and rituals are preserved by the oral history transmitted. generation to generation, making it difficult to search for information. Therefore, it is necessary to study and analyze them, as a way of preserving and deepening their cultures, preservation, and rescue of oral traditions.
