Abstract: | The yellow-ipê (Handroanthus serratifolius) is a deciduous tree species that occurs in several biomes covering the Cerrado. Cerrado vegetation presents several adaptations as survival strategies, including an underground structure capable of vegetative regeneration. Thus, the objective of this work was to morphologically characterize the underground structure that produces stem buds of the species. The plants collected for the analysis were obtained through the production of seedlings by planting seeds. When they completed four months after planting, they were collected and sectioned at a height of 2 cm below the collar of the plant to induce the development of buds. The sectioned root fragments remained in plastic containers containing two sheets of paper towel moistened with water for a period of fifteen days. Subsequently, the material was sectioned by hand and stained with safranin and methylene blue for microscopic examination. The results indicated that the sectioned roots presented intense shoots in the basal region where the cut was performed. The data allowed us to conclude that the species Handroanthus serratifolius has bud development in the underground structure capable of regenerating the aerial part of the plant under adverse conditions. |
