Abstract

The objective of this work is to carry out a case study of the proxy war in the conflict between India and Pakistan over the territory of Jammu and Kashmir between 1947 and 2010. The research uses the qualitative method and is conducted by case study and literature review. The region has been disputed by both countries since the independence of the subcontinent from the British Empire, and Pakistan uses proxy warfare to match its forces with the indians who have greater resources. The proxy war is the influence of third parties under the support of a state, in the context under study Pakistan uses non-state armed groups that fight against the Hindu presence in the valley. In this way, the question arises as to how the proxy war developed throughout the conflict? It is presented that between 1947 and 1980 the proxy war took place in a poorly organized manner and only from the 1980s onwards did it acquire structures that contributed to its organization.
