Abstract: This study aimed to evaluate the antimicrobial activity of six samples of red propolis against clinically important bacteria. Four reference bacterial isolates (ATCC), including Gram-negative and Gram-positive strains, were used and seeded on MacConkey agar and Mannitol Salt agar, then incubated at 36°C for 24 hours. After bacterial growth, the colonies were transferred to test tubes containing sterile 0.85% NaCl solution until turbidity equivalent to the 0.5 McFarland standard was achieved. Subsequently, the bacterial suspensions were inoculated onto Petri dishes containing Mueller-Hinton agar using sterile swabs. The antimicrobial activity of the propolis samples was analyzed using the agar diffusion technique. Six wells were made in each culture plate and filled with red propolis samples. Sterile 0.85% NaCl solution was used as the negative control, while amoxicillin-clavulanic acid was used as the positive control. The experiments were conducted under strict biosafety standards, incubated for 24 hours at 36°C, and analyzed by measuring the diameters of the inhibition zones. The study revealed that 100% of the samples were effective against Staphylococcus aureus, whereas they were ineffective against Gram-negative bacteria (Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa). The results obtained in this study demonstrate that red propolis may be an important ally in the treatment of bacterial infections, especially those caused by S. aureus.
