<description>Título: O ENSINO DO BASQUETEBOL E O DESENVOLVIMENTO MOTOR DE CRIANÇAS NA ESCOLA
Abstract: The objective of this study was to understand how teaching basketball helps in the motor development of children at school, observing how they learn the game, how they move, and how the activities planned by teachers influence this. The study is qualitative and conducted through a literature review, combining classic and current authors on motor development, school basketball, and sports initiation. The texts were organized in a table to facilitate the reading of objectives, methods, and results. The studies showed that many children arrive at school with basic movement difficulties, mainly balance and coordination, and that basketball can be very helpful when taught in a lighter, adapted way that is closer to their reality. Approaches that only use repeated exercises are not as helpful as those that use small games, real-life situations, and fun activities. Mini-basketball facilitates the participation of everyone, improves movement, communication, and interaction among children. In general, basketball contributes to improving fundamental motor skills, such as running, jumping, throwing, and spatial orientation, when the teacher organizes the class intentionally and adapts the game to the age group. Thus, basketball becomes an important tool in school, helping the child learn the game and develop as a whole.

<description>Título: A contribuição da educação física escolar para a promoção de saúde
Abstract: This study aimed to analyze how school Physical Education contributes to health promotion, considering its role in students’ holistic development and in the construction of active, conscious, and socially responsible lifestyle habits. The research was based on a literature review of articles and theoretical references that discuss the relationship between bodily practices, disease prevention, and health promotion within the school context. The analysis of the selected materials shows that school Physical Education, by providing diverse bodily experiences, supports students’ motor, cognitive, and social development, in addition to encouraging healthy behaviors. Objective – To investigate how Physical Education, as a compulsory curricular component, can contribute to disease prevention, encourage the practice of physical activities, and foster the development of competencies involving physical, cognitive, affective, and social dimensions. Methodology – The study was conducted through a qualitative and descriptive literature review using the SciELO database and the CAPES Journal Portal. Twenty-five articles published between 2005 and 2024 were selected, prioritizing studies addressing interventions and pedagogical practices focused on health promotion in the school environment. Results – The analysis revealed that school Physical Education emphasizes the importance of regular physical activity in combating sedentary behavior and preventing chronic diseases. The findings also show that interdisciplinary interventions, increased class time, and greater teacher engagement contribute to positive changes in students’ lifestyle habits and perceptions of well-being. Additionally, the results indicate that Physical Education must go beyond a biologicist perspective, incorporating sociocultural and critical dimensions of health to promote students’ autonomy, reflection, and active participation. Conclusion – It is concluded that school Physical Education plays a fundamental role in promoting health and supporting students’ holistic development. To achieve this, institutional commitment, ongoing teacher training, and the adoption of participatory methodologies are essential to make classes more meaningful and conducive to building a culture of health inside and outside the school environment.
