Grounded in the principles of Sociolinguistics and studies on textual genres, the research investigates how diatopic (regional), diastratic (social), and diaphasic (stylistic) variations are expressed in Patativa’s poetry. Through the analysis of the poems O Meu Livro, Doutor Raiz, A Triste Partida, Cante Lá, Que Eu Canto Cá, and ABC do Nordeste Flagelado, the study demonstrates that the use of orality and regional vocabulary goes beyond a mere stylistic device, constituting a political stance of cultural resistance and affirmation of Northeastern Brazilian identity. It examines the hypothesis that crossing into the garden represents a symbolic rite of passage, triggering processes of self-discovery, individuation, and identity restructuring. The research adopts a qualitative and bibliographic approach, drawing on the theoretical contributions of Franco Moretti regarding the Bildungsroman, Gaston Bachelard on symbolic space, Carl G. Jung and Marie-Louise von Franz on symbols, archetypes, the self and the individuation process, as well as Antonio Candido’s reflections on the novelistic character. The study focuses on the narrative and symbolic elements that constitute the characters’ entrances into the garden, as well as on the subsequent transformations in their relationship with nature, collective work, and friendship. It is concluded that the garden functions as a space of regeneration, autonomy, and development. Lovecraft Abstract: This work analyzes the structure of cosmic horror in the short story The Whisperer in Darkness (2010) by H. P. Lovecraft, focusing on the narrator's unreliability as the main mechanism for constructing fear. The research is justified by the need to understand how the textual mechanics of horror literature prove that the genre's effectiveness does not reside solely in the figure of the monster, but in the failure of language and human perception itself. To this end, the theoretical framework adopts authors such as Gérard Genette (1989) and his analysis of focalization modes, especially internal focalization, which restricts the reader's access to the character's limited consciousness; Tzvetan Todorov (2004) on fantastic hesitation as a condition of the genre; Wayne C. Booth (1980) and his theory on the rhetoric of fiction, particularly the concepts of reliable and unreliable narrators, emphasizing the notion of "unconsciousness" as a source of unreliability; Sigmund Freud (1919) regarding the concept of the "uncanny" (unheimlich); and Lovecraft himself (2008) on the fear of the unknown as the foundation of cosmic horror. The work is structured into three chapters: the first demonstrates, within the short story, how narrative focalization, the marks of the fantastic genre, and the narrator's unreliability occur, in addition to discussing the psychological aspect of cosmic horror; the second analyzes the persona of the narrator Wilmarsh, his limitations as a man of science, and the use of the epistolary genre as a resource for double unreliability; the third connects the strategies of rhetorical manipulation to the final aesthetic effect, concluding that the collapse of the narrator's sanity reflects the absolute human insignificance in the face of the unknown universe. All these aspects attest that the narrator's unreliability in Lovecraft's short story is not a technical flaw or a mere suspense device, but a fundamental aesthetic necessity to express the central idea of cosmic horror: the human mind is organically incapable of conceiving and reporting what goes beyond the limits of terrestrial reality without losing its sanity. The study relies on the distinction between alphabetization and literacy, arguing that the formation of a competent reader requires more than the decoding of signs, demanding the social appropriation of writing and a critical understanding of the world. The research, of a bibliographic, qualitative, and descriptive nature, is grounded in theorists such as Angela B. Kleiman, Rildo Cosson, Maria Helena Martins, Paulo Freire, and Dan Isaac Slobin, articulating concepts of literary theory with aspects of the individual's biological and cognitive maturation. To illustrate the application of these concepts, a comparative analysis was conducted on the works Menina Bonita do Laço de Fita, by Ana Maria Machado, and A Casa da Madrinha, by Lygia Bojunga. The choice of these books allowed for the observation of how different levels of narrative and thematic complexity cater to distinct stages of reader development, addressing topics from identity construction and representation to issues of social inequality and resilience. The results demonstrate that literature, when mediated in a gradual and humanized manner, acts as an irreplaceable instrument for vocabulary expansion, the mastery of more complex language structures and the strengthening of empathy and otherness. It is concluded that literary literacy is essential for the formation of autonomous and critical subjects, capable of actively intervening in society.
