Abstract: Evidence-Based Practice in Psychology (EBPP) has emerged as an integrative model
purportedly capable of reconciling scientific rigor with the complexity of clinical practice.
However, its transposition from the medical to the psychological field has generated intense
debate regarding the legitimation of knowledge and the technification of care. This study
aimed to critically analyze EBPP by mapping its conceptual foundations, implementation
challenges, and critiques directed at the model. A narrative literature review was conducted,
encompassing 23 articles published between 2020 and 2026, selected from academically
relevant databases. The results indicate that, although EBPP presents itself as a tripartite
model, its operationalization frequently subordinates subjectivity and clinical experience to
the statistical hierarchy of randomized controlled trials. Significant gaps were identified in
professional training and in the sociocultural representativeness of evidence, which often
disregards intersectional markers and peripheral geopolitical contexts. It is concluded that
EBPP frequently operates as a strategy of institutional and market legitimation. The study
points to the urgent need for a critical appropriation of the model, one that recovers its
integrative vocation and acknowledges the existential and political dimensions of the
therapeutic encounter, preventing methodological rigor from becoming a mechanism for
excluding the subject in their singularity.
