Abstract: The research investigates the trend toward the simplification of the use of relative pronouns in contemporary Portuguese, seeking to understand how these changes influence textual cohesion and communication. It is justified by the importance of these linguistic elements in the construction of clear and well-structured texts, as well as by their relevance to Portuguese language teaching and teacher education. The study aims to analyze the presence or absence of relative pronouns in different interaction contexts and in teaching materials, identifying their effects on meaning construction and their relationship with the guidelines established by the Brazilian National Common Curricular Base (BNCC). To achieve this, a bibliographic, qualitative, descriptive, and explanatory research approach will be employed, based on the analysis of grammar books, official documents, and textbooks, in order to understand the contemporary uses of these structures and their pedagogical implications.

Abstract: This undergraduate thesis analyzes the translation of three stories from Os Contos de Belazarte
(1934) by Mário de Andrade into English, focusing on the translator’s role as a cultural
mediator. The study situates the work within Brazilian Modernism, highlighting the oral
language, popular expressions, and social critique that emphasize the experiences of
marginalized subjects in São Paulo’s periphery. It examines how Andrade’s narrative
construction and literary aesthetics demand complex translational choices that preserve regional
lexicon, archaisms, cultural realia, and stylized oral discourse. The research draws on theories
of formal and dynamic equivalence (Nida), technical translation procedures (Barbosa), and
functional and Skopos approaches (Reiss, Vermeer, Nord), proposing strategies of
domestication and foreignization to ensure both comprehension and aesthetic impact for the
Anglophone reader. The study underscores the necessity of footnotes, glossaries, and cultural
adaptations, maintaining fidelity to the original author while ensuring intelligibility in the target
context. It concludes that literary translation in this case functions as transcreation, requiring
the translator to balance ethics, loyalty, and creativity, ensuring that the social, psychological,
and cultural nuances of the original text are conveyed without losing literary and
communicative effects.

Abstract: This undergraduate thesis analyzes the importance of literary literacy for the development of
language and psychosocial competencies in children and adolescents. The study relies on the
distinction between alphabetization and literacy, arguing that the formation of a competent reader
requires more than the decoding of signs, demanding the social appropriation of writing and a critical
understanding of the world. The research, of a bibliographic, qualitative, and descriptive nature, is
grounded in theorists such as Angela B. Kleiman, Rildo Cosson, Maria Helena Martins, Paulo Freire,
and Dan Isaac Slobin, articulating concepts of literary theory with aspects of the individual's
biological and cognitive maturation. To illustrate the application of these concepts, a comparative
analysis was conducted on the works Menina Bonita do Laço de Fita, by Ana Maria Machado, and
A Casa da Madrinha, by Lygia Bojunga. The choice of these books allowed for the observation of
how different levels of narrative and thematic complexity cater to distinct stages of reader
development, addressing topics from identity construction and representation to issues of social
inequality and resilience. The results demonstrate that literature, when mediated in a gradual and
humanized manner, acts as an irreplaceable instrument for vocabulary expansion, the mastery of
more complex language structures and the strengthening of empathy and otherness. It is concluded
that literary literacy is essential for the formation of autonomous and critical subjects, capable of
actively intervening in society.

Abstract: This work aims to demonstrate the importance of cordel literature as a Brazilian aesthetic-cultural experience, highlighting its role in the diffusion and preservation of collective memory, orality and diverse forms of popular traditions. The work of João Cabral de Melo Neto, Morte e vida Severina is brought here to the center of discussion, since its aesthetic complexity allows us to insert it in different forms and semiotic systems, including literature, popular culture, performative orality, music, theatre, visual arts and audiovisual. In this sense, the analytical path here investigates how the relationship between the cordel and other contemporary manifestations such as rap, the battles of rappers, as a kind of resumption of repentes in which popular singers compete, becoming an essential axis of this study. These expressions, based on writing practices and other cultural manifestations with roots in orality, performance and the search for a discourse filled with social criticism that can be observed and verified its power in the light of theories such as those of Luís da Câmara Cascudo, Haroldo de Campos, Antônio Candido, Darcy Ribeiro and others. The choice of the theme is also justified by the scarcity of systematic critical fortune on the cord and by the preservation challenges arising from its material support, often ephemeral.
