Abstract: The theme of this final course project addresses the distribution of archaeological material in the excavation area, technological, morphological, and archaeometry analyses related to the application of X-Ray Fluorescence spectrometry to ceramic materials collected at the GO-Ja-02 site, located in the municipality of Serranópolis, in the southwestern region of the state of Goiás. Based on these attributes, the objective was to identify and better characterize the ceramic traditions and any ethnographic groups that may have occupied the GO-Ja-02 site, considering that studies of ceramic material culture in the region are over 40 years old, and resumed in 2019. The research identified strong evidence of more than one ethnographic occupation, related to differences in the distribution and concentration of material by depth and spatiality, in firing, in the composition of the paste, in the plastic decorations, and in the surface treatment of the ceramic fragments. Furthermore, inferences can be made regarding the sources of raw material upstream of the GO-Ja-02 site.

Abstract: This work aims to discuss the interface between archaeology and palynology, based on the analysis of palynomorphs deposited in a stratified sequence present at an archaeological site located in the municipality of Goiânia, Goiás. Palynology is part of botanical studies, focused on the analysis of palynomorphs that include spores of pteridophytes and fungi, pollen grains of gymnosperms and angiosperms, charcoal particles, as well as other micro-remains, whether fossil or current. The studies allow establishing the distribution of local vegetation and the reconstruction of a paleoenvironment and climatic changes from the analysis of the set of palynomorphs present in stratified sequences. At the Bananeira archaeological site, located in the area covered by the João Leite stream, in the municipality of Goiânia, with original cerrado vegetation, previous studies have shown the presence of ceramic groups whose dates point to an occupation around 500 ± 30 years BP with records of maize (Zea mays) cultivation. The characterization of the set of palynomorphs associated with the dated level allowed for the characterization of past vegetation and its comparison with the current pollen spectrum, highlighting changes in the vegetation as a whole over the last 1,500 years. For archaeology, palynological studies can point to evidence of human occupation through the identification of fires, deforestation, and cultivation, and it is also possible to reconstruct the vegetation of a study area over geological time.

<summary type="text">Título: Morte no interior goiano: estudo comparativo a partir de sepultamentos em igrejas coloniais na América Latina.
Abstract: This work investigates colonial funerary practices associated with the Mother Church of Nossa Senhora da Penha de França, in Corumbá de Goiás, between the 18th and 19th centuries, from the perspective of Historical Archaeology. The central objective is to analyze how ecclesiastical architecture and burials in sacred ground expressed social hierarchies, power dynamics, and possible processes of cultural negotiation in the Brazilian hinterland. The research is based on the premise that death and its rituals constitute a privileged field for observing the imposition, adaptation, and silencing of traditions in the colonial context. The adopted methodology combines bibliographic and documentary research with a comparative analysis of three other Iberian colonial contexts: the Chapel of San Sebastián in Coporaque (Peru), representing a scenario of hybridization with Andean indigenous populations; the funerary complex of the Church of São José da Colônia in Manaus, exemplifying processes of superimposition and erasure in the Amazon; and the Church of Nossa Senhora do Rosário dos Homens Pretos in Ouro Preto (Minas Gerais), which illustrates the agency and segregation of enslaved Black communities. The results demonstrate that, in contrast to the Peruvian and Mineiro cases, the context of Corumbá de Goiás shows no material evidence of syncretism or symbolic negotiation in the burials. The analyzed funerary material culture – body orientation, presence of coffins, crucifixes, and rosary beads – is entirely Christian and European, revealing the hegemony and rigidity of the Catholic colonial device in the region. It is concluded that the Mother Church functioned as a “super-artifact” of domination, reproducing in death the social exclusions of life. However, the research also indicates that the presence and resistance of African and indigenous cultures manifested vigorously in the sphere of ritual and festive life, in celebrations such as those of Santo Elesbão, Santa Efigênia, and the Divine Holy Spirit. Thus, the study highlights a dichotomy between the orthodoxy of death and the syncretism of religious life, contributing to a more complex understanding of colonial social formation in the Brazilian Central-West.
